Our History
A Life With Oriental Rugs
The Baghestanian heritage in rugs and antiques dates back four generations, to the late 1800s, in the old world bazaars of Tehran and Hamedan. Morry learned the craft from his father, mastering the intricacy of knot making, symbolism of floral designs, and the complex ingredients employed by master weavers to ensure each piece will last more than a lifetime.
As a child, Morry traveled with his father through historic weaving villages, searching for the ideal master craftsmen, and establishing business ventures to supply the Persian capital with the finest rugs in the region. Through his adolescence, Morry completed his apprenticeship under his father and established his own bazaar in the Persian capital.
With continued success and growth came the accolades and recognition as a master dealer before the age of forty; followed by assignment as Director of the Tehran Antique and Handcraft Committee, overseeing licensing and operations of dealers in greater metropolitan Tehran.
In the 1970s, Morry’s business ties expanded Westward, to the shores of America, and after the Iranian Revolution, the Baghestanian Bazaar landed in Sacramento. Over the last thirty years, Kamran’s Oriental Rug Bazaar has become part of the fabric of Northern California’s furnishing and design community, providing antiques and rugs to the finest homes in the heart of California.
In the 1990s, Kamran Baghestanian decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and helped expand a second retail store in Lodi, with a 30,000 sq/ft showroom.
Today, Morry and Kamran are preserving the family tradition by serving the greater Sacramento community, with their expertise, experience, and superior service.
