What Is a Dhurrie?

A dhurrie is a flat-weave rug with origins in India. With dhurries, either wool or cotton is usually the primary material, although silk and jute are also used. Like the other flat-weave rugs offered by Kamran’s Oriental Rug Bazaar in Sacramento, dhurries are more than just floor coverings, and can also be used for table covers, furniture covers or other decorating elements.

The weaving method with dhurries (also spelled as durry or durrie) is usually slightly different from that of a kilim. We can illustrate the difference for you with examples in our Sacramento shop at 737 56th Street. Nevertheless, like the kilim, dhurries are reversible, flexible, and easily carried, making them a very convenient and easily maintained rug.
